On March 14, four men, Taslim, Arif, Abrar and Israr, gang-raped a minor-Dalit girl and thrashed her mother in Uttar Pradesh’s Budaun district. UP Police has filed a case against the four accused under the relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The police have arrested three accused – Taslim, Arif and Israr, and are on the lookout for Abrar.

Reportedly, the incident occurred when the victim went to defecate in an open field with her mother. The four accused persons approached them and attempted to take the victim while the victim’s mother tried to stop them. However, the accused persons thrashed the victim’s mother, after which she fell on the ground and fainted. Then, the accused persons took the victim to a deserted area and allegedly took turns raping her.

However, when the victim’s mother regained consciousness, she screamed for help. The victim’s brother showed up after hearing her screams and summoned their neighbours. The accused persons fled after the locals approached. Then, the victim’s brother took both of them home.

Furthermore, the locals searched and found the accused persons and grabbed and thrashed them before handing them over to the police. However, Abrar managed to escape. As a result, the UP Police recorded a case against the four accused for threat, assault and rape based on the victim’s brother’s complaint.

Aswini Santra 1998 (@as22sa98) tweeted a video where the victim’s brother described the incident and said, “Badaun, UP: A girl allegedly gang-raped and mother brutally beaten when they were on their way to farm. Villagers gathered on hearing screams. Thrashed them and approached police. Taslim, Arif, Israr arrested; Search for Abrar continues.”
