Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has received a notice from the Delhi Police requesting information regarding the sexual harassment victims he cited in a speech he gave in Srinagar in January during the Bharat Jodo Yatra.
Delhi Police took cognizance of the social media posts and sent a questionnaire. Rahul Gandhi had spoken of a girl coming to him and talking about the atrocities faced by her in reference to his experiences during the Bharat Jodo Yatra and the issues women faced.
According to police, Rahul Gandhi had said, “In one particular case I asked a girl, she had been raped, I asked her should we call the police, she said that don’t call the police then I will be shamed”.
“Delhi Police has issued a notice to Congress MP Rahul Gandhi to give details about those victims who approached him regarding their sexual harassment to provide them security. Police took cognizance of the social media posts and sent questionnaires,” a Delhi Police official said.
The congress party had said that it would respond to the notice in due course in accordance with law.
Rahul Gandhi also mentioned it in his already controversial speech at Cambridge university in the UK, where he said that when he was walking in Kashmir during his Bharat Jodo Yatra, two women approached him and held his hand. He said that one of the women said, “my sister and me were gang raped by five guys” when he talked to them.
