New Delhi: A Parliamentary delegation from Bhutan led by Wangchuk Namgyel, speaker of the National Assembly of Bhutan, called on President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan on February 7.
The President welcomed the delegation and said, “We deeply value the multifaceted and unique friendship between India and Bhutan. The Government of India is committed to expanding its excellent bilateral
cooperation with Bhutan, in accordance with the aspirations and priorities of the people of Bhutan”.
India is foraying into new avenues of bilateral cooperation with Bhutan, such as Space Cooperation, Smart Agriculture, Youth and Sports, Start-ups, Renewable energy and Digital Development, to help the Royal Government of Bhutan to realize its vision of prosperity for all.
The President noted that this year Bhutan would graduate from the LDC group of countries and embark on becoming a High Income Economy by 2034, a Ministry of External Affairs release said.
She said that while moving forward, Bhutan would always find a reliable and trustworthy friend in India.
The visiting delegation also called on Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla at Parliament House Complex on February 6.
On occasion, an MoU aimed at cooperation between the two Parliaments was signed by Om Birla and his counterpart.
Speaking on occasion, the Lok Sabha Speaker said that being the oldest and most vibrant democracy in the world, the Parliament of India reflects the hopes and aspirations of 140 crore citizens.
Referring to the budget session, he said that the government’s policies and programs and their financial allocations would be discussed during the session.
In the context of Amrit Kaal, Om Birla told the delegation that, for the next 25 years, extensive efforts would be made in agriculture, industry, infrastructure, science, digital economy, green energy and climate change of making India a developed nation.
He said that the cooperation of friendly countries would play a vital role towards achieving this goal.
