In a significant development in the 2021 Bijapur ambush case, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) nabbed a wanted woman Maoist from Bhopalpattnam of insurgency-hit Bijapur on January 29.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of NIA officials have raided a hideout in Bhopalpatnam and nabbed a senior cadre of the outlawed CPI (Maoists), the accused has been identified as Madkam Ungi, aka Kamla.

It’s been learnt that the said Maoist was an integral part of the Maoist group who ambushed security personnel near Telma Gudiya in Bijapur of Chhattisgarh in April 2021; as many as 22 personnel were martyred in the ambush while more than two dozen had sustained serious injuries.

A case about the attack had been registered at the Tarem police station, which was subsequently transferred to the NIA in June 2021.

Gunfight broke in Budmu

In a separate development, a joint team of Jharkhand Jaguar and the District police force has managed to recover 777 cartridges and two sets of walkie-talkies after a minor brief gunfight with the cadres of the Outlawed Tritiya Sammelan Prastuti Samiti (TSPC).

After getting some intel about the presence of Maoists in the Sumu forest area of Budmu of Ranchi, a joint team was dispatched to the spot in the evening hours of January 29; sensing the presence of the security personnel in the forest, the extremist opened indiscriminate fire to which the forces retaliated briefly.

Though the Maoist soon fled the spot observing the upper hand of the forces, following which two walkie-talkies, cartridges and other daily-use materials were recovered from the spot.

Naxal dump recovered in Kanker

Earlier, personnel from District Reserve Guard (DRG) had also seized a naxal dump in a combing operation at the outskirts of Aamabeda in Kanker of Chhattisgarh on January 28.

It’s been learnt that the security personnel of DRG were on a routine combing operation in the Aamabeda region of Kanker when an encounter broke out with the Maoists, following which the Maoist fled the region in a hurry.

Once the Maoist fled the spot, several materials, including detonators, codex wires, Naxal uniforms, and a large quantity of Naxal literature, were seized from the spot.
