Videos of offering namaz at public places and educational institutions are getting viral on a regular basis. On December 25 and 26, two videos of Muslims offering namaz at Vadodara’s Maharaja Sayajirao University (MSU) went viral on social media platforms. Reportedly, a video of a couple offering namaz at university premises went viral on December 25, and two students offering namaz went viral on December 26.

The students were found offering namaz outside the Sanskrit Mahavidyalaya at the University premises. The students were reportedly studying at the Commerce Department at the University and came to appear for the exam. While they were offering namaz at the university premises, some students recorded the video. Later, the members of MSU’s vigilance team and police officials rushed to the spot.

In retaliation, the Hindu organisations recited Hanuman Chalisa at the premises. Also, some Hindu activists went to the Vice Chancellor’s office and raised slogans demanding a probe into the matter.

Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) has alleged a conspiracy behind both incidents.

“Such incidents are deliberate and are part of a conspiracy. They (Muslims) are throwing a challenge at Hindus by doing such activities. And we are also ready to accept that challenge. We will hand over a detailed memorandum to university officials tomorrow. Security must be tightened on the campus,” said the secretary of VHP’s Vadodara unit, Vishnu Prajapati.

Recent incidents of namaz at public places

This is not the first time such an incident has emerged. On December 23, 2022, a group of Muslims in Gurugram sparked controversy as they started offering namaz in public places at the ground in Sector 69. Earlier, in November 2021 too, namaz controversy had erupted in Gurugram, and several residents had complained and staged a protest against Friday Namaz at a public ground. Locals had staged protests for weeks against offering Friday Namaz at a ground in Sector-47.

In October 2022, a video of four Muslim men offering namaz on a train surfaced on social media, in which it was seen that namaz was being offered when the train halted at Khadda railway station. Former Uttar Pradesh MLA Deeplal Bharti shared the video.

In March 2022, a video of a Muslim girl wearing a hijab and offering namaz inside a classroom of a central university in Madhya Pradesh went viral, prompting authorities to form a committee to probe the matter.

In July 2022, a controversy erupted after a video showing a group of people offering namaz at the newly built Lulu Mall in Lucknow.

In February 2022, a video clip of the students offering ‘namaz’ in the classroom of a government primary school in Karnataka’s Dakshina Kannada District went viral. The students studying in classes seven and five had offered mass prayers inside the classrooms.

In October 2021, a video of a Muslim man offering namaz at the exit gate of Botanical Garden metro station, Noida, went viral.
