At the closing ceremony of a cricket tournament organized by the J&K Police on Saturday (December 3rd, 2022) in Doda District, the Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbagh Singh, along with ADGP Daljit Singh of the CRPF and ADGP of Jammu region Mukesh Singh, stated that Pakistan Sponsored Terrorism chapter in J&K is closing and is on a rapid verge of decline. Still, a nasty “drug menace” has emerged.

The Jammu and Kashmir police enforce stringent measures to contain the threat and demand active collaboration with the citizens, especially the youth of the Union Territory.

According to the esteemed officer of the Indian Police Service, drug menace is a bigger enemy when compared to terrorism. As terrorism in the valley declines, Pakistan has harbored another malevolent evil intention. It is using drug trafficking and illicit drug trade to generate funds for terrorists and destroy the youth of Kashmir.

If not checked in time, both factors will eventually culminate in the instability of the Union Territory. The threat of Islamic extremism and radicalization already rampant in the territory will further enhance and aggravate the existing situation to a large extent.

He further added that around 1200 cases related to drug trafficking had been registered so far, and more than 2000 people have been arrested in the process, which reflects the magnitude of the threat.

The police chief stated that while terrorism affects the individual, the drug menace affects the family and society. As new persons are getting involved in the drug nexus, every citizen must identify these persons and help the police take action against the perpetrators. The youth have an essential role in spreading awareness of a drug-free society.

He also recalled his tenure as the SSP (Senior Superintendent of Police) of Doda; he stated that despite the number of challenging circumstances, the people of the area have always stood for peace.

During his visit, he also chaired a joint officers meeting at the Indian Army Delta Force Headquarters at Dharmund to review the security scenario of the Chenab Region. At the meeting, he was warmly received by Major General Ajay Kumar. The DGP stressed enhancing the synergy between the forces and the army to eliminate and flush out and eliminate the remaining terrorist in the region.

The Counter Measures for Narco Trade and weapon dropping were discussed during the meeting. At the same time, Major General Ajay Kumar briefed the DGP on related measures taken by the counter-terrorism grid in Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban Areas.
