After 700 years Daulatabad to be known once again by its original name, Devagiri Fort

There are multiple historical scars that the Hindus of India are still unable to get rid off. Most of the invaders especially the Mughals, the Turks and others captured Hindu sites of importance and renamed them.

One such scar was the Daulatabad Fort, which originally was Devagiri Fort built by the Kings of the Hindu-Yadava Dynasty. Devagiri fort is located in Devagiri in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar of Maharashtra.

However, when the invaders came in, things started changing, and that this is the reason when Tughlak took the decision of changing his Delhi Sultanate capital to Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, he changed the name of Devagiri Fort to Daulatabad. This happened somewhere in the 14th century.

Finally after 700 years, the Eknath Shinde-Devendra Fadnavis Government has decided to rectify the change.

Mangal Prabhat Lodha, Tourism Minister, Maharashtra, recently made the announcement that some invaders, came here, they took over our Fort and renamed it. “The way we changed the name of Aurangabad to Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar the same way the name of Devagiri Fort shall be notified as Devagiri,” he said.

Since, the change in regime in Maharashtra where the unholy alliance of MVA comprising of Shiv Sena (Uddhav), NCP and Congress was replaced by Shiv Sena (Shinde) and BJP, several names that bore the scars of invasion are being renamed to their original names.

While there’s a group that keeps on protesting to such names, the Shinde-Fadnavis camp has shown the courage to not deflect. When Uddhav Thackeray in his last days as the CM changed the name of the Aurangabad, in a minority cabinet decision, it was Shinde-Fadnavis government that re-took the decision which was technically correct and also didn’t bow down to protests opposing the name change.

There are many such monuments, and places that were originally built by Hindus but then were acquired the names given by the invaders. The list is long, and the belief is there now that like Devagiri Fort all those sites waiting for justice will soon retain their rightful name again.
