NDTV journalists step out to defend AIMIM leader MP Imtiaz Jaleel who gave death threat to Nupur Sharma

As Islamists went on the rampage across the country, their ideological friends in the shape of left-leaning liberals jumped into action, spinning a different reality to confuse their readers and save one of their own who was caught echoing the demands of the Islamists on the streets.

Rohini Singh, a journalist, accused news agency ANI of excessively misquoting the AIMIM leader, claiming that he explicitly stated that he did not request the hanging of Nupur Sharma. While Singh has been ambiguous in her condemnation of those guilty for the violence that erupted on Friday, she has stated that Jaleel’s misquoting can potentially exacerbate tensions.

Gargi Rawat of NDTV also declared that Imtiaz Jaleel was misquoted and that he only said that he didn’t ask for the hanging of Nupur Sharma. She quietly deleted the tweet when Twitter users told her that Jaleel had indeed asked for capital punishment for Nupur Sharma.

Another journalist Kadambini Sharma from NDTV too, jumped to defend Imtiaz Jaleel for his call for violence statement against Nupur Sharma, and wrote a tweet in which she said that ANI has wrongly transcripted what AIMIM MP has said.

Earlier, video of AIMIM MP and former NDTV journalist Imtiyaz Jaleel demanding that Nupur Sharma should be executed for her statements on Muhammad went viral on the internet.

On the 10th of June 2022, Jaleel spoke to the media after outraged Islamists rallied in front of the divisional commissioner’s office in Aurangabad, Maharashtra, demanding that Nupur Sharma should be hanged for her words about Muhammad.

Demanding capital punishment for Nupur Sharma, Imtiyaz Jaleel said, “Islam is a religion of peace. People are angry. We, too, demand that Nupur Sharma should be hanged. If she is let off the hook easily, then such things will not stop. Law should be brought to take action against those who make such remarks against any religion, or sect. Mere dismissing from the party is not an action.”
