In a one-sided action, the TN police have removed posters pasted by Hindu Munnani, praising Tamil Nadu Governor R N Ravi for declaring PFI and SDPI are radical and terror elements.
In a book launch function of ‘The Lurking Hydra: South Asia’s Terror Travail” in Chennai on May 6, he described the PFI as a ‘threat to India’ and added that the radical group had 16 fronts to camouflage its true activities.
RN Ravi said, “But essentially, its whole aim is to destabilize the country… from within. They are the ones who have been sending their fighters to Afghanistan, Iran & Syria, and they were all PFI people.”
He said that the extremist Islamic group is getting support from some political parties for their own politically–vested interests. “This is a threat that we need to be very, very careful about. The country is capable of dealing with them,” he said.
TN governor warned, “If they try to distract the attention of the government from the target… they are mistaken, they will be disappointed. The Indian Army, the Indian Security Forces are capable of dealing with them.”
Reacting to his speech, posters sprang up in Madurai and Tirunelveli on May 12, criticizing the Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi, calling him an RSS supporter. In the PFI poster, it is written in Tamil that RN Ravi should withdraw his statement. “Don’t spit venom in support of RSS. Governor should not work against the interests of the public,” it further said.
Madurai Thallakulam Police has filed a case against PFI officials Muhammad Abudahir and Syed Isaac but has made no arrests so far. The PFI posters are still on the walls. Instead of removing the same, the Tirunelveli police removed the posters put up by Hindu Munnani, thanking the Governor for his statement calling PFI and SDPI are terrorist organizations.
Hindu Munnani functionary Kutralanathan questioned the police personnel when they were removing the posters thanking the Governor near his house. He was seen arguing with the police in a video, and the police left the place after a long debate.
Amidst the ongoing standoff between the DMK government and the Governor, CM Stalin, who is also the state’s Home Minister, is forcing the police to function as a stooge.
