PNU declares the first drug free zone in Manipur

Imphal: Chief Minister of Manipur N Biren Singh, who has been spearheading a full-on war against drugs, has received a booster shot after Poumai Naga Union (PNU) resolved to join hands in an ongoing campaign “War On Drugs 2.0”.

In cognisance of the Chief Minister’s initiative on the war against drugs, PNU issued a statement.

The Union has adopted a resolution after a discussion over the importance of preserving/ conserving forest and land resources, and in the larger interest of the people and its future, the house has resolved to curb and control the plantation of poppy or any other form of a drug in the Poumai Naga area, and its jurisdiction, said the statement.

The house also unanimously declared the Poumai Naga area and its jurisdiction as a “Drug Free Zone”, declared the statement signed by its Speaker, President and Secretary of PNU.
