In what has raised eyebrows in political circles, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann met British MP Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi at his official residence in Chandigarh. AAP MP Raghav Chadha was also present at the meeting.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and former Army Chief General JJ Singh demanded Punjab chief minister should reveal what actually transpired in the meeting.

“It is very unfortunate that the AAP government in Punjab is going the extra mile to welcome Labour MP Dhesi whose views are pro-separatist and anti-India. AAP owes a clarification to the country whether it supports his views on Kashmir and other matters which are against our country,” General (Retd) JJ Singh asked.

After meeting the chief minister in Chandigarh, MP Dhesi tweeted, “Grateful to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann for the warmth with which he received me at his Chandigarh residence. We, Raghav Chadha and Dr Nijjar MLA discussed at length NRI hopes, anxieties and desire to see the Punjab progress. He assured me his best to address these issues.”

“It was a pleasure to meet Mr. Tan Dhesi, MP from UK Labour Party today at CM Bhagwant Mann Saab’s residence. He has a very deep understanding of several issues that Punjab is grappling with today,” AAP MP (Rajya Sabha) Raghav Chadha posted on Twitter.

MP Dhesi had criticised the Union government’s move of abrogation of Article 370, which provided special status to the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir.

On August 5, 2019, the Union government abrogated Article 370 and reorganised the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir into two union territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.

In the past, MP Dhesi had given statements supporting the separatists in Punjab.
