NDTV Does a ‘Ground Report’ to Establish the Main Accused in Jahangirpuri Riots Mohd Ansar as a ‘Gentle Soul’

It did not take long for the NDTV to do what it has been doing for years now: whitewashing the jihadi crime. The terrorist attack on the Hindu religious procession in Delhi’s Jahangirpuri took place on Saturday (April 16), and NDTV was at the main accused’s place to show his ‘humane side’.

The Delhi Police FIR states that it was Mohammed Ansar, 35, who first started the trouble in the region. It says the Shobha Yatra on Hanuman Jayanti on Saturday (April 16) was moving peacefully when Ansar, with his four-five colleagues, descended on the Yatra and started an argument with the devotees. In no time, stone-pelting from the Jama Masjid of C-Block and surrounding Muslim houses started.

The FIR explicitly states that the procession had moved peacefully to the C-Block when Ansar obstructed it.

On Sunday (April 17) afternoon, the Rohini Court sent Ansar to one-day police custody.

On the very same day, when FIR was already registered, NDTV did a ‘Ground Report’ from Jahangirpuri. The NDTV reporter reached Ansar’s place and found one neighbour of Ansar, Kamlesh Gupta, who literally said Ansar was the only reason her family was alive today.

The reporter asked the neighbour how has been ‘Ansarji’s’ behaviour. The neighbour replies that she is from a poor family has been living in the area for the past 12 years. In these years, Ansar has been very kind to not only her family but the whole Hindu neighbourhood.

Kamlesh narrated how Ansar had helped her when her son was sick in the lockdown and how kind he has been to the whole Hindu neighbourhood. She also told NDTV that she has never seen him indulge in any kind of violence.

When some other neighbours tried to say something, the NDTV cut them short.

NDTV has a history of doing such things.

It was then NDTV’s reporter Barkha Dutt who had justified the genocide of the Kashmiri Pandits in the Valley in the early 1990s, saying there was popular resentment against the ‘rich’ Pandits of the Valley as they had cornered all the government jobs, plum postings and other economic benefits. She had further said that ‘poor’ Muslims of the Valley were left with hardly anything.

When Lashkar commander Burhan Wani was killed in the Valley in a military operation in July 2016, NDTV had successfully tried to set the narrative that ‘a headmaster’s son’ was killed by the security forces.

It is not uncommon for the NDTV to humanise the terrorists and terror activities. When terrorists are killed in security operations in the Valley, NDTV will focus on how he was a budding cricketer, a music lover or how he was a shy child who could never do any wrong thing.
