Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, along with his cabinet colleagues and all the MLAs of ruling coalition BJP, AGP and UPPL, watched the film "The Kashmir Files" on Tuesday evening in Guwahati.
Guwahati: The situation in Assam is not much better than in Kashmir. But unlike the Kashmiri Pandits, the people of Assam are prepared for any eventuality. Assam CM Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said this after watching the film 'The Kashmir Files'. Dr Sarma said that Kashmiri Pandits looked up to the then Jammu and Kashmir government for their safety and security, but they were denied that. The people of Assam are now much more politically aware, united, and are ready to face any challenges.
Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, his cabinet colleagues, and the MLAs of ruling coalition BJP, AGP and UPPL watched the film "The Kashmir Files" on Tuesday (March 15) evening in Guwahati. After watching the film, CM Dr Sarma said, "I feel very emotional watching the film. Director Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri and his team successfully captured the plaintive story of Kashmiri Pandits in celluloid. I congratulate all of them."
He further said, "Thousands of Kashmiri Pandits became homeless due to unimaginable atrocities and genocide in the 90s. This was a black chapter of history which was contrary to humanity."
Dr Sarma appealed to the people of Assam to watch the film to go through the true story of the sacrifices made by the Kashmiri Pandits and the aggression on the Sanatan Peeth Kashmir by the Islamists. Meanwhile, the CM announced a half-day leave for all government employees to watch the movie in cinema halls. They need to submit the movie ticket in their office to avail the leave.
Reacting to the demand of MP Badruddin Ajmal to ban the film, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said the film is not against any religion. It is based on facts and figures and against the barbaric atrocities of Islamist terrorists. He further said terrorism doesn't have any religion, and if Ajmal watches the film, his soul will cry for the Kashmiri Pandits.
