Imphal: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) that sweeps the Manipur assembly elections 2022 has got extra booster with the voluntary support from newly-elected MLAs of Naga People’s Front (NPF), Janata Dal (United) and Independents to its fold.

The party has now 45 MLAs in its kitty in the 60-member Manipur Legislative Assembly with the support of 13 (thirteen) newly elected legislatures including two Independents, five NPF and six JD (U).

Five MLAs of Naga People’s Front (NPF) MLAs and two independents submitted their letter of support to the Governor of Manipur.

The BJP has also got another shot when the Janata Dal (United) decided to support to BJP in the formation of the government.

The JD (U) has also appointed the newly elected MLA of Thangmeiband, KhumukchamJoykisan Singh, Assembly as its Leader of Legislature Party, Tipaimukh MLA NgursanglurSanate as his Deputy while Lilong MLA Abdul Nasir as Chief Whip of the party.

The BJP-led government is due to end on 19 March 2022 and in order to form a new government, N Biren Singh has resigned from the post of Chief Minister a day after BJP stormed back to power with an absolute majority in the recently concluded state assembly elections.

BJP top leaders in the state ruled out any possibilities of post-poll alliance with the National People’s Party (NPP) due to their fault-finding experience in the last coalition government. However, BJP is likely to accept the support from NPF, JD (U) and Independent from outside while respecting the ‘coalition dharma’.

BJP central leadership is expecting to arrive in the state to take stoke of the situation and stake claim to form a government after a decision is taken to elect the BJP's legislature party leader.

Remarkably, five women have been elected for the first time in the history of the Manipur Legislative Assembly. BJP’s S Kebi and SS Olish have been elected for the first time from NaoriyaPakhanglakpa and Chandel seats respectively while NemchaKipgen has been elected consecutively three times from Kangpokpi assembly constituency.

NPP’s IrengbamNalini and KPA’s (Kuki People’s Alliance) KimneoHaokipHangshing have been elected from Oinam and Saikul assembly seats respectively. Nalini is the wife of Ex-MLA, (Late) IrengbamIbohalbi Singh and KimneoHaokipHangshing is the wife of self-styled Chairman of outlawed Kuki Revolutionary Army (KRA), David Hangshing.
