EAM Dr Jaishankar participated in the Munich Security Conference (MSC) and lashed out at China at the conference, saying the relations with China are going through a very difficult phase after Beijing violated border agreements.
New Delhi: External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar commenced his weeklong visit to France and Germany. He will attend the EU Ministerial forum for cooperation in the Indo-Pacific and bilateral meetings with French counterpart Jean-Yves Le Drian and French Armed Forces Minister Florence Parly. Dr Jaishankar is expected to call on French President Emmanuel Macron during his visit.
The visit will be high on political content as Paris and New Delhi are key strategic partners. France has a presence in the Indo-Pacific region in the form of Reunion Island and is playing a crucial peacemaker role in the Ukraine stand-off.
"Wonderful to see the community turnout on a cold Sunday Munich morning. Their feelings for India were so heartwarming," Dr Jaishankar tweeted after meeting a large group of Indian community people in Munich in Germany.
"Shared with them the confident national mood. And underlined the strong momentum of India-Germany relations," he wrote.
He also held meetings with Foreign and Security Policy Advisor to German Chancellor Jens Plotner and German Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development Svenja Schulze. "Discussed our respective development partnership outlook. We share a commitment to promoting green growth and clean tech," he wrote.
Dr Jaishankar also held a meeting with Simon Coveney, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Defence in the Irish government. "We have worked closely together at UNSC. Ireland can play a greater role in our EU engagement," Dr Jaishankar tweeted.
The External Affairs Minister is on a visit to Germany and France from February 18 to 23, 2022. The Minister arrived in Germany on Friday and participated in the Munich Security Conference (MSC).
Jaishankar flays China
External Affairs Minister Dr Jaishankar has lashed out at China and said India's relations with China are going through a very difficult phase after Beijing violated border agreements.
Addressing the Munich Security Conference, 2022 Panel Discussion, Dr Jaishankar said there was peace for 45 years with stable border management and no military casualties on the border. Jaishankar said India had agreements with China not to bring military forces to the Line of Actual Control. But the Chinese violated those agreements and said the state of the border would determine the state of the relationship.
The External Affairs Minister held a series of one-to-one meetings with Ministers from Europe, Asia and other parts of the world on the sidelines of the Conference on Saturday.
