The victim's mother and wife of the accused lodged a complaint to the police about how the father has been assaulting his minor daughter.

The Gujarat police arrested Mansoor Khan on Sunday (January 23) for sexually assaulting his own 12-year-old daughter in Devbhoomi Dwarka.

This was not the first time when Khan assaulted his daughter. The victim's mother complained Khan had molested her in the past as well. On some occasions, he even tried to force himself on her. He again assaulted the victim on Saturday (January 23) and forced her to marry him. When his wife objected, he tried to convince her that he was ready to sign the nikahnama, Islamic marriage certificate.

On the complaint of the mother, a case was registered under sections 8, 12 and 18 of the POCSO Act and section 354 (k) (1), 506 (2) of the IPC. The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, was enacted "to protect the children from offences of sexual assault, harassment and pornography, while safeguarding the interests of the child at every stage of the judicial process by incorporating child-friendly mechanisms for reporting, recording of evidence, investigation and speedy trial of offences through designated special courts." It was amended in 2019 to make it more stringent to deter the abusers.

What has shocked the residents is that the accused is the victim's father, and a father is supposed to protect the child.

More than 6,20,000 sexual offenders have been listed in the national database and are being tracked by the investigative agencies.

Note: The name of the accused has been changed to protect the victim's identity as she is a minor and the accused is her father.
