New Delhi: The continued violence in the Chin region in Myanmar could add to the woes of the military junta.
The National Unity Government (NUG) of the dissidents have threatened to take the issues of the gruesome killing of innocent people including children to the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
Leaders of NUG have alleged that the entire population of the Chin State town of Thantlang was "displaced due to military actions and occupation".
Some 700 houses and seven religious buildings were destroyed over a three-month period ending in December, the NUG alleged.
A 'Minister' of Human Rights (of displaced NUG) Aung Myo Min said that the violations would also be reported to the UN Security Council.
“The NUG is filing reports and trying to bring about stronger action [against the junta], such as preventing airstrikes and stopping the imports of weapons and airplane fuel,” he said, according to reports in a section of media in the regional press.
The NUG leadership is also trying to reach out to countries such as Brazil, Australia and Germany.
In the Sagaing Region at least ten people were killed at Matupi Township. The NUG also held an in memory meet at the Kalay township recently, it has been claimed.
Relatives of two of the victims also spoke at a media conference explaining how their loved ones were tortured and killed by Myanmar army.
The Chinland Defence Force has been active and fighting the military along with the Chin National Army (CNA). One Sangkima (29), a Myanmarese national and a suspected cadre of the rebel group Chin National Army (CNA), was also arrested in Mizoram by Assam Rifles along the international border recently.
Chin leaders and 'victims' lament that the junta army did not even spare the 'youngest' La Nang, a 13-year-old boy. He was allegedly abducted and later killed when he had accompanied his brother on an errand to buy fuel.
Citing figures compiled by the Chin Human Rights Organisation, the NUG has stated that at least 892 people had been arrested and 182 people killed in Chin state from the period following the February 1 coup till December 2021.
Some 50,000 Chin State residents were also displaced from their homes last year. A large number of them have also sneaked into Mizoram.
