The proposed rail network Will be of strategic importance connecting India and Myanmar and further South East Asia.
Guwahati: India is advancing in its mission to connect the strategic locations through a rail network.
The Ministry of Railways has accorded sanction for the Final Location survey of the Imphal–Moreh section of about 111 km to construct a new BG line connecting India and Myanmar. Minister of Railway Ashwini Vaishnaw, on his visit to Imphal on Wednesday (5th January), conducted an aerial inspection of Railway projects and ordered the survey for a new line up to Moreh. Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh accompanied union minister Vaishnaw during the aerial survey of the proposed rail link.
This new line, once constructed, will be of strategic importance and will form an important part of the proposed Trans-Asian Railway, which will connect India with South East Asia on the rail network. The proposed rail link will be very important from India's defence point of view.
To provide better rail connectivity to the people of Manipur, re-introduced extended services of passenger train between Silchar-Jiribam up to Vangaichungpao of Manipur was also flagged off on 5th January 2022 by CM N Biren Singh and Railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.
It is targeted to start the engine rolling for goods train up to the Kaimai Road railway station by the end of this month and in Vangaichungpao–Khongsang section by March 2022.
