Shillong: A group of unidentified miscreants on Saturday night vandalised a Kali temple in Mawbah area in Meghalaya capital Shillong.
The Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) has filed a petition with Jhalupara Police Outpost in Shillong. The VHP demanded the arrest of the culprits involved in the incident, which took place on the intervening night of January 1 and January 2.
The VHP mentioned in the petition that the broken idol of Goddess Kali was first noticed by the priest of the temple in the morning on January 2. The complaint further stated that the incident had hurt the sentiments of the Hindu devotees. The VHP also called for a detailed investigation into the incident and apprehension of the culprits.
The local Hindu residents termed the incident an unfortunate one and termed it as an attack on Hindu faith and belief. The copy of the FIR has been sent to the Superintendent of police of the East Khasi Hills District and Director General of Police of Meghalaya.
