New Delhi: Smarting from the Covid19 crisis and the government move to repeal three contentious farm laws, both the Indian industry captains and the centre now want to focus on thinking about "scale and without any fear".
Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a meeting with industry captains as part of pre-Budget consultations here on Monday.
PM Modi urged the corporate sector to "invest more" in areas like agriculture and food processing and also suggested that there should be 'shifting focus' on natural farming.
Kotak Mahindra Bank vice-chairman Uday Kotak said, “Time has come for Indian business, Indian industry, Indian banking and financial sector to think about scale, without any fear". They also spoke about sustainability, inclusion, enforcing digital and infrastructures.
"We will grow, we will make India happen," Kotak said. “PM's message was very clear that while the government can support, you (industry) are the ones who have to go there, achieve, and perform,” said Preetha Reddy, vice-chairperson at Apollo Hospitals Group.
The Prime Minister said, just like the country aspires for a podium finish at the Olympics, India also wants to "see our industries among the top five of the world in every sector, and this is something for which we should collectively work towards".
The industry captains thanked the Prime Minister for putting his faith in the private sector. "They said that due to his leadership, the economy of the country is moving ahead on the path of recovery after Covid, through his timely interventions and transformative reforms. They expressed commitment towards contributing to the Atma Nirbhar Bharat vision of the Prime Minister," an official release said.
TV Narendran said that the government's timely response has led to 'V shaped' recovery after Covid. Sanjeev Puri gave suggestions to further boost the food processing industry.
Uday Kotak also said that PM has brought path-breaking changes through simple yet beautifully articulated reforms like Swachh Bharat, Startup India etc.
Sumant Sinha, Chairman and Managing Director of ReNew Power, India's largest renewable power, said that the Prime Minister’s leadership in Glasgow was highly appreciated by the global community.
