Guwahati: There has been no fresh intrusion by the Chinese army PLA in the territory of Arunachal Pradesh in recent times. Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Pema Khandu clarified this in the media. Khandu said, " It was claimed in the social media and other media too that China has built new infrastructure or villages in a new territory in the Arunachal Pradesh. I have seen the claim that there is new Chinese construction in the Monigong village in the Shi Yomi district of Arunachal Pradesh." The chief minister further said that he purposefully visited the Monigong village a few days ago and interacted with the villagers. He also held brief discussions with the Army and Paramilitary forces. Khandu clarified that there is no such report on the ground.
The villagers have reported it to him and the army report also clearly suggests that whatever infrastructure has been developed is on the other side of the border, he added. CM Khandu also mentioned that the infrastructure development by the Chinese is obviously in the Tibetan territory occupied by them long back, and there is no fresh intrusion and no infrastructure development by Chinese in Arunachal Pradesh territory. Talking to the News Live news channel, CM Khandu further stated that China is not a signatory of the international water treaty, which could be a major concern for India. If the Chinese government constructs a large-scale dam in the upper stream of the Siang river in their territory, it could dry down the lower streams like the Siang belt in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and neighbouring country Bangladesh.
The CM said that the central government would diplomatically handle this issue in the international forum. It should be mentioned that the Siang river is the prime water source for the valley and the river Brahmaputra in Assam and Padda in Bangladesh. It was reported earlier that China is constructing a huge dam in upper Siang in Tibbet, a major concern for India. Less water flows down the Siang river could dry down the rivers in Siang valley in Arunachal Pradesh, Brahmaputra river in Assam and Podda in Bangladesh.
