Christian miscreants had uprooted a Shivling and Trishul and cut down a century-old sacred Banyan tree that was worshipped by Hindus in Mahadevtila forest in the Katigorah in Cachar district of Assam

Silchar: Hindu devotees of Katigorah in Silchar reinstalled the Shivling and Trishul in the Mahadev Tila, where Christian miscreants cut down a centuries-old banyan tree worshipped by Hindus on 17th November. Khasi community Christian miscreants also uprooted the Shivling and Trishul, which were placed under the banyan tree for the worship of Lord Shiva. On Monday, hundreds of Manipuri Hindu devotees climbed up to Mahadev Tila inside the forest and performed puja near the banyan tree. Shivling and Trishul were reinstalled amid chanting of mantras and with full Hindu rituals. Sarat Singh, a local Manipuri Hindu, said they would continue to worship the tree even though Christian miscreants cut it down.

" Our forefathers had worshiped this banyan tree and we will continue it even though the existence of the tree is not there." Singh said. It should be mentioned that Christian miscreants had uprooted a Shivling and Trishul and cut down a century-old sacred Banyan tree that was worshipped by Hindus in Mahadevtila forest in the Katigorah in Cachar district of Assam on 17th November. Following the incident, Hindu organisations like the Hindu Rakshi Dal and Hindu Chhatra Sangh had submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner, district Cachar, Assam demanding strict action against the miscreants.

A video accessed by "Organise" shows that hundreds of Hindu devotees, including women and children, performed puja near the cut-down banyan tree on Monday and the Shivling and Trishul were reinstalled with full Vedic rituals. Local people demand that the administration take appropriate steps to ensure the Hindus' right to worship by providing security to its places of worship. The police and district administration are yet to take action. A case has been registered under the Assam forest act for cutting down the banyan tree.
