After the washout of the Monsoon session of Parliament, all eyes are on the Winter Session getting underway on Monday. Three contentious farm laws will be repealed on the first day.

New Delhi: The basket is more than full. At least it looks like that, and hectic business, debate, law-making, and 'repealing' are on the cards for the Winter Session of Parliament beginning on Monday, November 29.

On the first day of the session, the Farm Laws Repeal Bill 2021 is listed for introduction and passing in the Lok Sabha. s

This draft law will repeal the Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020, the Farmers' Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020, the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020, and to amend the Essential Commodities Act, 1955.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the move to repeal the laws on November 19, coinciding with the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak, the founder of the Sikh religion. The government sources had suggested that separatist trends were being encouraged in the name of farmers' stirs in many quarters.

The government convened an all-party meeting on Sunday, which was attended by 42 leaders from 31 parties. "The government is ready for any discussion permitted by the Chairman in Rajya Sabha and by Lok Sabha Speaker, without disruptions," Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi told reporters.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said all parties must ensure the smooth functioning of both the Houses so that the members can have healthy debates.

Many parties have indicated various issues, including the Corona situation in light of the emergence of a new variant, fuel prices, farmers' issues, the situation in the northeast, and the Women Quota Bill.

The Biju Janata Dal, TMC, YSRCP, Left parties, and BSP raised the Women's Reservation bill issue in Sunday's meeting.

Two parties who have opposed the Women Quota Bill in the past, the Samajwadi Party of UP and RJD of Bihar, maintained that the reservation for women should be at the level of political parties.

Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu met the Leaders of parties in Rajya Sabha on Sunday evening. Deputy Chairman Harivansh, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi, Leader of the House Piyush Goyal, Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge and floor leaders of different political parties attended the meeting.

The session is scheduled to continue till December 23.
