Guwahati: World's largest river island Majuli in Assam, will be connected with the mainland through a bridge over the river Brahmaputra. Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma announced this on Friday. The bridge's construction will start on 30th November, and it will be completed in four years.
CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, who was in Majuli to attend the Srikrishna Raas Mahotsav, said he would attend the foundation laying ceremony on 30th November. CM Dr. Sarma told the media that his government is committed to the all-round development of the Vaishnavite cultural hub.
It was announced by the CM at the time of the boat accident in September in Majuli that the construction of the bridge would be started soon. The state government has allotted 2.60 crores of Rupees for the land acquisition for the bridge construction. The bridge will connect the river island district with Jorhat town. The river island Majuli has been known for its Satra and Vaishnavite culture for hundreds of years.
Sri Krishna Raas Mahutsov is one of the prime festivals of the island. CM Dr. Sarma was in Majuli to attend the Raas Festival. He visited the construction site of the Cultural University in Majuli.
Despite the Covid situation, Raas is being celebrated in several Satra's of the river island. CM inaugurated Raas Mahotsav in the famous Dakhinpat Satra. He also attended Raas at Kamalabari and Auniati Satra. CM stayed the night at a "Missing Chang Ghar' (a traditional wooden house built by the riverine Missing community) and enjoyed their traditional cuisines.

Maharani of the Manikya dynasty of Tripura, daughter of Manipur's Maharaja Bhagya Chandra, brought the idol of Radha-Gobind and established it in Radha-Madhav Jews Temple in Tripura.
