The new plant in Assam helps the agricultural sector and tea industry across the region and ensure timely availability of urea.
Guwahati: The Union government has released rupees 100 crores for the revival of the Brahmaputra valley fertilizer corporation limited (BVFCL) at Namrup in eastern Assam. Soon after meeting with the visiting Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in the national capital, the Union chemicals and fertilizers minister, Mansukh Mandaviya took the initiative.
It may be mentioned that BVFCL is a public sector undertaking formed as per the company act under the administrative control of the
Department of fertilizers of the Central government. Presently, it is operating its two vintage plants (Namrup-ll and Namrup-lll) in the State.
The Centre’s financial assistance is expected to restore its urea production capacity of 3.9 lakh metric tons per annum and ensure timely availability of urea to the agricultural sector and tea industry across the region. BVFCL has 580 permanent employees, along with 1,500 temporarily.
CM Sarma, while meeting the Union minister, complemented for achieving 100 crore vaccination in pursuance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Sarma also apprised him that Assam had crossed 2.03 crore first dose vaccination and fast inching towards 100%.
Days back, Sarma held a meeting with police officers of the eastern Assam districts of Sivasagar, Charaideo and Jorhat and took stock of the law & order situation in those districts. Sarma, also in charge of the State home portfolio, directed the officers to clear all pending
cases within 31 March 2022.
Stressing on filing post-mortem reports within 72 hours, Sarma asked them to develop better coordination between district magistrates, district police chiefs and concerned health department officials and directed them to apply appropriate sections of IPC or CrPC against each FIR.
He also ordered the police officials to organize conferences to review crimes in their districts every month and intensify ongoing operations against drugs. Additionally, Sarma directed them to ensure timely disposal of PVR and passport verification reports, besides ensuring that the police personnel harass no poor people.
State education minister Ranoj Pegu, State revenue & disaster management minister Jogen Mohan, Parliamentarians Topon Kumar Gogoi, Kamakhya Prasad Tasa, legislators Dharmeswar Konwar, Sushanta Borgohain, senior police officials Jitmal Doley, Megha Nidhi Dahal, Rakesh Roshan, Amitabh Basumatary, with others were present on the occasion.
