After the derogatory video of the Ramayana skit went viral on social media, people performed bhajan at St. Mary’s School in Haryana. People gathered outside the school gate and performed bhajan-kirtan. The video of the derogatory skit had gone viral on Saturday (November 6). A two-minute video of the skit went viral in which the characters can be seen mocking Lord Ram. He is portrayed as a patient with dementia. The audience, which consists of school teachers and children, could be seen laughing.

(First, the students of AIIMS Delhi insulted Hinduism and Lord Ram and now, in the name of acting, in St. Marys’ School, see how Shri Ram is being insulted. We will not tolerate any insult of Shri Ram at any cost. There should be action against the school.”)

After the uproar and protest, the principal of St. Mary’s School, Rajeev Sharma, apologised in writing, saying, “If the Ramleela skit performed by some of our students has hurt the sentiments of any individual, then, we tender our unconditional apology for it. We assure you that such an incident will not be repeated in the future.”

Last month, a similar video of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) New Delhi went viral. MBBS first-year students of AIIMS could be seen making fun of Lord Ram in the video. Soyeb Aftab, an MBBS first-year student, had written the script of the skit.

After an uproar on social media, AIIMS Student Union apologised for the skit and assured it wouldn’t be repeated.

The Hindu IT Cell and Bajrang Dal have protested in both cases and taken up the matter with the relevant authorities.

“They (The IT Cell team) spoke with the principal Rajeev Sharma. He accepted his mistake and issued an apology. He also assured us that such a thing will never happen again. Special thanks to our core members”, the Hindu IT Cell posted on social media platform Twitter, with a picture of the apology letter.
