Popular Front of India General Secretary Anis Ahmed on November 9 hailed Newslaundry’s series on jailed ‘journalist’ Siddique Kappan, where she builds up a narrative on lies and fabricated facts. In one of the articles, Kumar, despite repeated requests, distorts the statements of Indus Scrolls founder and MD G Sreedathan, and refuses to correct them to suit her pre-set narrative. Indus Scrolls has reproduced the WhatsApp conversation between Kumar and Sreedathan.

Responding to PFI’s appreciation of Newslaundry, Sreedathan said: “It is obvious that she has written the report to push the Islamist agenda.  It is nothing but propaganda stuff. She cleverly hides several facts which are already in the public domain. She tries to suggest that UP Police had prepared the 5000-page charge sheet on the basis of a less-than-500 word Malayalam report. Her claim that Kappan had served a defamation notice on me is a lie.”

UP Police’s voluminous charge sheet reveals Kappan’s links with radical Islamist outfit PFI. According to a police official, Kappan’s and his accomplices’ arrests have helped the police to unravel a terror network in South India. “What is his links with notorious terrorist Danish Abdulla, a former SIMI activist? He had visited Hathras to create social disturbances,” said another journalist, who received death threats from PFI activists for cooperating with police in the investigation. Sreedathan also received hate/threat messages from Islamists after Newslaundry published a baseless report.
