Guwahati: Border Roads Organization pan India motorcycle expedition, which was flagged off by Union defence minister Rajnath Singh on 14 October in New Delhi, arrived in Tezpur of central Assam on Wednesday. Organized to commemorate the nation’s 75 years of India’s independence, the rally is scheduled to cover around 20,000 kilometer in over 75 days.
The BRO Karmayogis have already crossed over 5000 kms by covering various important places like Pang, Leh, Kargil, Srinagar, Prayagraj, Varanasi, Nathula, Guwahati, etc. The expedition has been guided by lieutenant general Rajeev Chaudhry, director general of Border Roads with inspirations from Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the occasion of 75th anniversary of Bharat’s independence.
“Adventure sport is a source of inspiration for all ranks in BRO. Not only does it contribute to the spirit of adventure it also creates goodwill and a positive image of the organisation in the environment. This year as the country celebrates 75 years of its independence, PM Modi has envisioned the celebration of this year as Bharat Ki Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav,” said a BRO statement.
The expedition comprising 75 BRO riders of all ranks is now leaving for Doomdooma in astern Assam and then will move towards Itanagar, the capital of Arunachal Pradesh. The rally is expected to culminate on 27 December touching various corners of the country and spread the awareness of BRO contribution and also celebrate the momentous occasion.
Meanwhile, State chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma held a meeting with police officers of the eastern districts of Sivasagar, Charaideo and Jorhat a few days back and took stock of the law & order situation in those districts. Sarma, also in charge of the State home portfolio, directed the officers to clear all pending cases within 31 March 2022. Stressing on filing post mortem reports within 72 hours, Sarma asked them to develop better coordination between district magistrates, district police chiefs and concerned health department officials and directed to apply appropriate sections of IPC or CrPC against each FIR.
He also ordered the police officials to organize conferences to review crimes in their districts every month and intensify ongoing operations against drugs. Additionally Sarma directed them to ensure timely disposal of PVR and passport verification reports, besides ensuring that no poor people are harassed by the police personnel.
State education minister Ranoj Pegu, State revenue & disaster management minister Jogen Mohan, Parliamentarians Topon Kumar Gogoi, Kamakhya Prasad Tasa, legislators Dharmeswar Konwar, Sushanta Borgohain, senior police officials Jitmal Doley, Megha Nidhi Dahal, Rakesh Roshan, Amitabh Basumatary with others were present on the occasion.
