Swami Shivananda was born in 1896 in West Bengal and took his first shot of vaccine on June 9.

125-year-old Swami Shivananda of Varanasi took his second dose of the Covid-19 vaccine earlier this week. He is the oldest person in the country to get vaccinated against Covid-19.

Swami Shivananda was born in 1896 and hails from West Bengal. He has been living in Varanasi for over four decades. He was administered the vaccine at the urban community health centre located in the CMO office premises in Durgakund.

India’s vaccination drive against Covid-19 is the biggest in the world and a grand success. The country launched the world’s largest vaccination drive against Covid-19 in January this year, starting with the frontline warriors like doctors, sanitation workers etc.

Pune-based Serum Institute manufactured Covishield, and Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin are being administered to the people in the country.

In the nine months of its vaccination drive, the country passed many milestones. On August 27, more than one crore doses (1,00,64,032) of Covid vaccines were administered in the country.

“Record vaccination numbers today! Crossing 1 crore is a momentous feat. Kudos to those getting vaccinated and those making the vaccination drive a success,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi had posted on Twitter.

On October 21, the country achieved the milestone of administering more than 100 crore doses of the Covid-19 vaccine.

Hailing the achievement, Prime Minister Narendra Modi posted on Twitter, “India scripts history. We are witnessing the triumph of Indian science, enterprise and collective spirit of 130 crore Indians. Congrats India on crossing 100 crore vaccinations. Gratitude to our doctors, nurses and all those who worked to achieve this feat. #VaccineCentury”

In yet another milestone, indigenously developed and manufactured Covaxin got WHO approval on Wednesday (November 3).

The World Health Organisation posted on Twitter on November 3, “WHO has granted emergency use listing (EUL) to #COVAXIN® (developed by Bharat Biotech), adding to a growing portfolio of vaccines validated by WHO for the prevention of #COVID19.”

To further boost India’s vaccination drive, PM Modi, on Wednesday (November 3), launched the ‘Har Ghar Dastak’ campaign in which the medical staff will knock on every door to ensure no one is left behind.

While launching the drive, PM Modi said, “During this house-to-house campaign, along with those who are yet to receive their first dose, you all must also focus on administering the second dose. When disease transmission comes down, the feeling of urgency also tends to come down. People start thinking what is the hurry, we will get jabbed later.”

He added, “So far you have had been making efforts to safely administer Covid vaccine doses at the vaccination centres. Now the time has come to focus your efforts towards house-to-house visits to ensure you cover those who have not been vaccinated as yet.”
