Agartala: Vested interest and anti-national forces trying to destabilise the communal harmony in Tripura using social media. Pictures and videos of old violence in other places were made viral on social media, showing it as Tripura's violence, and vested interest sections are trying to create communal clashes in the state. Tripura police DIG, in a video statement, said that five criminal cases have been registered against 71 persons who posted provocative posts on social media.
Five people have been arrested by police so far for circulating fake videos and pictures intending to create communal hatred. Three people have been summoned to appear before the police. Tripura police also stated that strict action should be taken against those who are trying to create hatred in society. Police appeal to all not to indulge in posting fake pictures and rumour-mongering, the statement said. Tripura police earlier said that fake ids were created, and rumours and fake pictures were made viral to create unrest. These ids originated from Bangladesh. The damaged masjid picture which went viral is not from Tripura.
On Tuesday Chakma community staged a protest at the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala against the recent attacks on a Buddhist Monastery in Bangladesh. They also submitted a memorandum to Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina through the High Commission.
Members of six Chakma organisations of Tripura–Chakma Buddhist Welfare Society, Young Chakma Association, Tripura Chakma Students Association, Chakma National Council of India and Tripura Rejjyo Chakma Gabuchya Joda staged the protest.
The groups condemned the attack and torching of the Katakhali Forest Buddhist Monastery under Teknaf in Cox's Bazar district on October 24 by miscreants. During the attack, at least eight indigenous persons, including women belonging to the Chakma community, were injured.
