In the light of the recent killing spree of the civilians unleashed by the terrorists in the Union Territory, the following note examines the background of the victims.
The civilian killings in the Valley instill panic and apprehensions of ethnic cleansing among the minorities living in Kashmir. The background details of the victims prove that this is one of the staunchest plausible reasons for carrying out terrorist operations.
• Virender Paswan hailed from Bhagalpur, Bihar and was a street vendor (Golgappa seller) putting up in Alamgiri Bazar, PS Zadibal. He and his family members have been living in Srinagar for the past 12-15 years. Unknown terrorists shot him dead at Madin Sahib, Hawal, PS Lal Bazar on October 5th, 2021, when he was returning home. He was rushed to SKIMS, Soura, where doctors declared him brought dead. Terrorist outfits claimed responsibility for the attack, namely The Resistance front (TRF) and the Islamic State of Jammu and Kashmir (ISJK).
• Supinder Kour, the wife of Ramresh Pal Singh, was earlier a senior lecturer at Government Higher Secondary School, Chanpora, Srinagar. She was later posted as the principal at Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Sangam, Eidgah, PS Safakadal, Srinagar in 2019. Her husband, Ramresh Pal Singh, is an employee of J&K Bank, posted at the Corporate office of J&K Bank near TRC, Srinagar. She had two children, a son and a daughter. The Resistance Force terrorists killed her on October 7th, 2021, amidst the targeted killing.
• Deepak Chand Mehra, son of Lal Chand, had an apartment at Indra Nagar (rented accommodation), PS RM Bagh, Srinagar and was posted as a teacher on his first appointment since September 12th, 2018, under PM Package at Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Sangam, Eidgah, PS Safakadal, Srinagar. His family comprised his wife, Sangeeta, a daughter aged about three years and a mother who stays at their native place in Jammu. He was killed inside the school amidst the TRF's targeted killing on October 7th, 2021.
• Makhan Lal Bindroo, son of Rakeshwar Nath Bindroo, was a 70-year-old Kashmiri Pandit living in Kashmir valley for ages. He was a famous pharmacist and used to have his medicine shop at Hari Singh High Street earlier. Later, he expanded his business and opened Bindroo Brother Health zone Opposite Iqbal Park, PS Shergarhi. He was one of the Kashmiri Pandit family, which didn't migrate even at the peak of militancy in the '90s and continued their business/medical shop. Makhan Lal Bindroo's two children, Dr Sidharath Bindroo (Diabetologist), practising at the Iqbal Park, Jawahar Nagar, Shergarhi and Dr Smriddhi Bindroo. Dr Smriddhi Bindroo is an Associate Professor of Medicine at PGI Chandigarh. The terrorists of TRF killed him on October 5th, 2021.
