After Kanhaiya Kumar joined the Congress Party, the Communist Party of India is caught in a tight spot with someone they branded as 'Indian Che Guvera' leaving them. Kanhaiya was part of the All India Students Federation (AISF), the student wing of CPI. He also unsuccessfully contested the Lok Sabha election from the Begusarai constituency in Bihar, where he lost to BJP leader Giriraj Singh with a margin of over 4 Lakh votes.
In a desperate attempt to propagate the 'cult of Kanhaiya', CPI and its affiliates had used his photos in their posters. Now CPI cadres are busy tearing such posters.
Kanhaiya's photos were used in the posters of a rally of AIYF in the Ambalappuzha constituency on September 19. Earlier, AIYF used the photos of Bhagat Singh but later abandoned his photos since they found the 'Indian Che Guvera'.
From the beginning of this September itself, there was news about Kanhaiya Kumar joining the Congress, but the CPI leadership had rubbished all such news, calling it propaganda by bourgeoisie media outlets.
"Kanhaiya Kumar was not straightforward and truthful to my party," says CPI General Secretary D. Raja
Communist Party of India (CPI) General Secretary D Raja slammed Kanhaiya Kumar for leaving the party and joining Congress on Tuesday, saying that he has no faith in the communist ideology.
"Kanhaiya has expelled himself from the party. CPI is a party fighting for a casteless and classless society. If he has expelled himself, it means, he must have personal ambitions and aspirations. It shows he has no faith in communist ideology and no faith in working-class ideology," Raja told ANI.
"As far as CPI is concerned, our party will work and succeed. That is what I want to underline. The party will not end with him leaving. CPI was there and after him as well, the party will be there," said the party's General Secretary.
Emphasizing the ideals of CPI, Raja said that the party is known for "selfless struggles" and "sacrifices."
"Those who come to our party, they must be prepared to lead such a selfless life, making supreme sacrifices in the interest of the nation and the working people of the nation," Raja noted.
He further alleged that Kanhaiya was not "straight forward truthful" to the party and the leadership.
"He was not straight forward truthful to the party and to the leadership. That's why there was speculation. He did not come forward to explain," he said.
Kanhaiya Kumar was elected to the party national council of the Communist Party of India (CPI) and was inducted into the CPI national executive council in 2019.
The CPI had banked heavily on his so-called image and thus gave the ticket to former JNU Students' Union president. Kumar contested from Begusarai on the Communist Party of India's ticket for the 2019 Indian general election. He lost the election to the now Rural Development Minister Giriraj Singh.
