The meeting between NEDA convenor Dr. Sarma and NSCN (IM) general secretary T Muivah is considered crucial as it took place just after the resumption of talks between central interlocutor A K Mishra and NSCN (IM) leadership.

 

Dimapur: Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma had a crucial hour-long meeting with NSCN-IM general secretary Thuingaleng Muivah at the Chumukedima Police Complex in Dimapur on Tuesday (September 21) afternoon. This was the first meeting between NEDA Convener, Dr. Sarma and the top NSCN-IM leader. Details of the close door meeting are not known as both sides are maintaining tight lips about the discussions. The meeting between NEDA convenor Dr. Sarma and NSCN (IM) general secretary T Muivah is considered crucial as it took place just after the resumption of talks between central interlocutor A K Mishra and NSCN (IM) leadership.

After the meet at the Chumukedima complex, Dr. Sarma headed to Niathu resort, where he met with Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton, State BJP president Temjen Imna, among others. Peace interlocutor Akshaya Kumar Mishra is also at the Niathu resort in Dimapur. Dr. Sarma also met Nagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio at his residence and discussed the latest political developments in the state. 

On Monday evening, Dr. Sarma met union home minister Amit Shah at his residence in New Delhi. After he met with home minister Amit Shah, Dr. Sarma told in media that the union home minister has given him the go-ahead to initiate a peace talk with ULFA (I) chief Paresh Baruah.

“I have discussed with the home minister on the issue of holding peace talks with the ULFA. He has authorised me to initiate the preliminary talks with the ULFA,” the CM said.
