Guwahati: Assam Police have arrested seven persons for forging Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma's signature, including the mastermind Imran Shah Chaudhury. The Assam police's team arrested Shah from Delhi on Monday (September 13).
The other arrested persons have been identified as Binit Poddar, Dipjyoti Dutta, Jaimini Mohan, Pankaj Gogoi, Rajib Kalita, Dilip Das and Naba Roy.
The fraudster Imran Shah introduced himself as a close circuit person in the CMO and told a vendor named Luit Construction that he could sanction work in the PHE department directly from CMO. On that condition, he took nine lakh rupees from the vendor and gave them an order note with a forged signature of the chief minister.
Two contractors Binit Poddar and Dipjyoti Dutta gave nine lakh rupees to the fraudster Imran Shah Chaudhary, who gave them the forged paper, which they finally submitted to the Chief Engineer, PHE Department. Sensing a scam, the PHE chief engineer's office communicated with the CMO. Upon receiving the information, the CMO had lodged an FIR on September 8 regarding the same and a case was registered at the Dispur Police Station. Police picked up four people: Binit Poddar, Dipjyoti Dutta, Jaimini Mohan and Pankaj Gogoi, in connection with the case. Upon the investigation, they have revealed that Imran Shah Chaudhary gave them the work orders with the forged signature of the chief minister.
Imran Shah and three other people, namely–Dilip Das, Anupam Chaudhary and Prakash Basumatary, scanned an actual signature of the Hon'ble CM to create the forged document in the shop of one Naba Roy. On September 11, City Police arrested Rajib Kalita at LGBI Airport on arrival from Delhi. Kalita revealed that Imran Shah fled to Delhi after the CMO lodged the FIR. The Assam police's team arrested Shah from Delhi on Monday, and the process is on to bring him back to Assam for further investigation.
