Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on Saturday (September 4) that various states, UTs, NGOs and central forces submitted their views on the reforms in the Indian Penal Code, Criminal Procedure Code and the Evidence Act.
The centre has received suggestions from 14 states, 3 UTs, eight central police organisations, six central armed police forces (CAPF), and seven NGOs on possible changes in British era laws in forces.
A government functionary said it's a work in progress. The home ministry's consultation exercise also covers courts and bar associations.
While addressing at the 51st Foundation Day of Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D), Shah said the organisation is a key part of the consultation process that's been going for over two years and offered constructive suggestions as part of the centres' efforts to overhaul laws and bring them in sync with modern times and Indian conditions.
Shah also said the police receive unfair criticism, though they are often tasked with difficult and sensitive arguments.
