Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy also ordered the deployment of home guards for the safety of the Waqf properties.
In an order which raised many eyebrows Monday (August 9), Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy ordered the construction of boundary walls for the Waqf properties and also ordered timely honorariums for imams, Muezzins and pastors in the state.
The order to this effect was passed on Monday (August 9).
In October of last year, the YS Jagan Mohan Reddy government of Andhra Pradesh had decided to digitalise all properties owned by the Waqf board in the state. The government had also appointed district revenue officers as custodians of waqf properties in their respective districts.
The Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) and BJP leader GVL Narsimha Rao criticized the move by Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. He posted on the microblogging platform Twitter “CM Jagan directed authorities to protect waqf lands by constructing compound walls, but is this not the case with temple lands? Sell them, who cares?"
"What you are doing is religious politics @ysjagan. The BJP does not condone anti-Hindu policies," he added.
