While the daughters of the soil are making the country proud, instead of praising them or working towards the betterment of their future, Jharkhand police officials were seen doing lathi-charge on the girl students, who were protesting for their future.

One such case has come to light in Dhanbad after the Jharkhand Academic Council (JAC) Board Class XII result was declared. For the last few days, the students were protesting after they failed in the Class XII result announced by the JAC. On August 5, they blocked the road near the SSLNT Women’s College and sat on a dharna at the Randhir Verma Square till midnight to press for the demands.

Meanwhile, many police officers, including the SDM of Dhanbad, brutally lathi-charged the protesting students. Girls were beaten badly, and many became unconscious at the protest site. Their only fault was that they wanted to convey their message to the Education Minister and the government through the Dhanbad Deputy Commissioner.

This is not the first incident of atrocities on women by the police administration; there have been reports of atrocities against women many times. On July 22 2020, the Barhait police station in charge of Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s assembly constituency called a young woman to the police station and brutally abused her. However, after the protest, the in-charge was suspended, and a case was also registered against him. But after a month, he was transferred to the Indian Reserve Battalion Musabani.

While speaking to the Organiser, the leader of Opposition Babulal Marandi said that compassion towards women is dead in the Jharkhand Government. On the one hand, the criminals have become unbridled in the State. On the other hand, the police and administration are only seen doing brutality and indecent behaviour towards women of the State.

“There is highest number of crimes against women in Jharkhand. Be it the case of rape or atrocities on them, Jharkhand is about to touch new heights”.

Babulal Marandi further said that the criminals have become completely unbridled in Jharkhand under the Hemant Government. There has been a considerable increase in crimes, especially against women. So far, about 3000 women and girls have been victims of rape and atrocities in the State. Among them, the highest number of women is from the tribal, Dalit and deprived class.

On the recent incident of lathi-charge by the administration in Dhanbad, Marandi said that instead of listening to the concerns of the girl students who visited to lodge their protest, they became the victim of atrocities of minister and police officials. If this continues, that day is not far when Jharkhand will be the most unsafe State for women.
