Arshad Nadeem was one of the finalists in the Javelin throw event but finished 5th. In the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta, Neeraj clinched Gold while Nadeem clinched Bronze.
Minutes after expressing his respect for Indian athlete Neeraj Chopra, Pakistani javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem deleted the tweet where he called Chopra his idol.
Nadeem had tweeted “Congratulations to my Idol #NeerajChopra for winning. Sorry Pakistan, I could not win for you."
He deleted this tweet and posted a new one where the word ‘idol’ was removed. He posted “Congratulations to #NeerajChopra for winning #JavelinThrow competition in #TokyoOlympics.”
Nadeem was one of the 12 finalists in the Javelin throw event. But, he finished 5th.
Earlier, Sports Tiger quoted Nadeem “Neeraj is an amazing talent. I have competed with him about eight times now including the SAFF Championships in India and Asian Junior Championships. But he has a foreign coach and I don’t. His achievements inspire me and my goal is to emulate him one day, maybe, beat him too.”
Chopra clinched Gold with a throw of 87.58 metre. In the qualifying round, Neeraj topped Group A with a throw of 86.65m, Arshad topped Group B with a throw of 85.16m.
