Guwahati: The first consignment of nano urea, developed by Indian farmers’ fertilizers cooperative limited (IFFCO) has left for Assam.  Need not to mention that the IFFCO product, emerged for the first time in the world, is understood to substitute a major portion of
conventional urea in paddy fields.

Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma virtually flagged off the nano urea consignment from Kalol plant in Gujarat, where a team of IFFCO officials were present on Saturday. He termed the nano urea  as a game-changer in the history of modern agriculture across the globe. Congratulating the IFFCO for the innovative endeavour, Sarma hoped that it would bring many positive benefits to the farmers.

Mentioning about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for the welfare of the farmers, Sarma revealed that the Centre has spent around rupees 55,000 crore towards subsidy for urea fertiliser alone during the 2019-20 fiscal year. He expressed optimism that the introduction of nano urea would save a huge amount of money from the public exchequer. “Transportation, handling and warehousing cost will also substantially reduce as only 1 bottle (500 ml) of nano urea will supply equivalent amount of crop nutrients which 1 bag (45 kg) conventional urea can provide,” said Sarma thanking the IFFCO for sharing its valuable technology with other PSUs for the common farmer’s benefits.

Finally, Sarma in presence of State agriculture minister Atul Bora, industry minister Chandra Mohan Patowary, CM’s political secretary Jayanta Malla Baruah, IFFCO chairman Balbinder Singh Nakai & managing director Udai Shanker Awasthi along with other responsible government officials, urged the IFFCO to come forward for setting up a nano urea plant in Assam.
