In the assembly elections this year, AIADMK was voted out of power in Tamil Nadu and the DMK, led by MK Stalin, won the polls.
The Dairy Development Minister in the Tamil Nadu government, SM Nasar, said the DMK won in Tamil Nadu because of the Christian prayers.

“Only because of the strength of the  prayers of the Christian community, has there been a change of rule in the state. DMK has come to power thanks to the power of the prayers of Christian community”, the Hindu Post quoted Nasar.

The minister was speaking in an event organised by AG Church in Tiruvallur district on the occasion of their prayer tower’s 40th year of establishment.

Earlier, Mercy Senthil Kumar, the daughter-in-law of DMK minister I Periyasamy and wife of DMK MLA I.P. Senthil Kumar, had demanded a law to ensure pastors and sisters be arrested only after getting the approval from the vatican.

“Everyone is speaking out about Pastor Stan Swamy’s death. I’m here to add my voice to yours. We are all bound by our family circles, and we can only volunteer in our spare time. But what respect do we give to priests and sisters who dedicate their entire lives to service? A priest (Stan Swamy) has died. Today, 200 people gathered here to support Stan Swamy, and another priest and a sister will be struggling somewhere else tomorrow”, The Commune had quoted Mercy from a viral video.

The Hindu Post reported “Earlier Catholic priest George Ponnaiah of Kanyakumari had spoken that Hindus won’t vote DMK to power however much the HRCE minister and others try to satisfy them and that DMK’s victory is alms given by the Christian community.”
