The Uttar Pradesh Government has announced that no permission will be granted to take out any procession for Muharram, and the decision has been taken to enforce the Covid protocol in the state.
A circular was issued by the Uttar Pradesh DGP, asking all the police stations in the state to ensure no procession is carried out on the occasion of Muharram to be celebrated on August 8-19.

In a circular issued by the state DGP Mukul Goel, all the police station chiefs have been asked to ensure that no procession is taken out and peace prevails.
Recently, the Yogi Adityanath government had cancelled the Kanwar Yatra to rule out any possibility of a third wave of Covid.
The circular asks the administrative heads in respective regions to take religious leaders into confidence and ensure peace during the Muharram period.
The Union Home Minister Amit Shah, on a visit to Uttar Pradesh on Sunday (August 1), praised the law and order situation in the state under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
He said, “For six years till 2019, I travelled a lot in UP. Hence, I know the earlier Uttar Pradesh very well. There was an atmosphere of fear in western Uttar Pradesh because of which people were leaving the area, women felt unsafe, the land mafia was grabbing the land of the poor people, incidents of firing in broad daylight and riots were rampant.. But since Yogi Adityanathji is chief minister, the law and order situation is fully under control.”
