Guwahati: "If Mizoram government serves me any notice, I will go and join their investigation"Assam chief minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma said in Guwahati today. Answering a question about case filed against him by Mizoram government in a media briefing Dr. Sarma said, I can't allow my officers to be arrested in such a case when the place of occurrence is within the state of Assam , but I will do a "Padayatra" from Silchar to Vairengte in Manipur to join the investigation against me. Even if they arrest me, it's fine. He further said "if my arrest resolves the disputes, why not arrest me today, I will not even apply for interim bail in Guwahati High Court" He also said that since 26th July he has called Mizoram chief minister not less than 20 times but couldn't talk much as CM Zoramthanga is in quarantine.
Dr. Sarma said as six police personnel had died in the clash, it is obvious to file a case from the Assam side. We want to know what happened on that day.So if not by Assam or Mizoram police, let there be an independent enquiry by a neutral agency or NIA. We have every right to know the truth. It is not only about the Assam and Mizoram disputes, but about the loss of six lives.
The Victims families have the right to seek a clouser, he stated. The Assam chief minister also made it clear that he is ready to sit with Mizoram CM Zoramthanga for discussion on the ongoing disputes. For a permanent solution of the issue Assam is ready to discuss it if the central government wishes to hold a tripartite talk. Dr. Sarma also informed that the Assam government has taken a decision to file a petition in the Supreme Court seeking an amicable permanent resolution of the boundary dispute.
