The Washington Examiner report claimed Danish Siddiqui was in a mosque when the Taliban attacked him and checked the identity of Siddiqui before executing him.
Indian photojournalist Danish Siddiqui was not killed in a crossfire in Afghanistan but was captured alive, tortured and executed by the Taliban, The Washington Examiner report said Thursday (July 29).
“Siddiqui was alive when the Taliban captured him. The Taliban verified Siddiqui’s identity and then executed him, as well as those with him. The commander and the rest of his team died as they tried to rescue him,” the report said.
Danish had died on July 16 in the Spin Boldak district of Kandahar. Earlier, it was reported that he was caught in a crossfire between Afghan security forces and the Taliban terrorists. The Taliban has also apologised for his death.
“While a widely circulated public photograph shows Siddiqui’s face recognizable, I reviewed other photographs and a video of Siddiqui’s body provided to me by a source in the Indian government that show the Taliban beat Siddiqui around the head and then riddled his body with bullets,” The Indian Express quoted Michael Rubin, a senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute.
After Siddiqui got hit by shrapnel, he went to a local mosque to get medical aid. The Taliban hunted Siddiqui and his team in the mosque, verified their identities and then executed them.
