By the time CSYL re-examined his documents because of the difference in the names, he had fled from Kerala and was later arrested by Kochi City Police.
Eid Gul (22), an Afghani from Kabul, has been arrested from Kolkkotta by Kochi City Police. Eid had got employed in Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSYL) with the help of fake documents. He was employed under an outsource sub-contractor. Naturally, CSYL authorities clarified that they have nothing to do with this appointment. Police have brought Eid Gul to Kochi, and he is remanded. It is reported that police would ask for his custody for further interrogation. He has been working since June under the disguise of an Assam native Abas Khan. He had organised fake documents in the name of Khan. When the difference in the names surfaced, the CSYL re-examined his documents. By that time, Eid had fled from Kochi.
Illegal stay back in Bharat even after the expiry of VISA, violation of VISA rules, impersonation, etc., are the charges against him. Eid had entered Bharat two years ago under Medical VISA. The permitted time to stay in Bharat was three months. His father is an Afghani, and his mother is from Assam. Despite applying, his VISA was not extended. It is reported that his uncle brought him to Kochi due to the instruction of his grandmother.
Since the building of aircraft carrier INS Vikranth is in the final phase, NIA will likely take over the investigation. Earlier, the pilferage of hard discs from INS Vikranth was investigated by NIA, and two north Indian painting workers were charge-sheeted. The Afghani issue is a serious security failure. The incident assumes utmost significance in the light of the recent news and reports about the active ISIS presence in the state. Even the state police chief had agreed to this to the newsmen on the eve of his retirement. He had admitted that there are IS sleeper cells in the state.
