Legendary actor Dilip Kumar is no more, Tragedy King dies at 98

The 98-year-old veteran actor was admitted to the hospital because of breathing issues. 

 

Veteran Bollywood actor Dilip Kumar has passed away. He was 98 years old. He breathed his last at 7.30 am today. Dilip Kumar was once again admitted to the hospital on June 29 due to difficulty in breathing.

 

Dilip Kumar, AKA Mohammad Yusuf Khan, was born on December 11, 1922, in Peshawar Pakistan. He is known as The First Khan in Hindi cinema. Dilip Kumar was the first actor who introduced the art of method acting in Hindi cinema.

 

Dilip Kumar made his acting debut in 1944 with the film Jwar Bhata, produced by Bombay Talkies. Worked in more than 65 films in an acting career of nearly five decades. Some of Dilip Kumar's iconic films are Andaz (1949), Aan (1952), Daag (1952), Devdas (1955), Azad (1955), Mughal-e-Azam (1960), Gunga Jamuna (1961), Ram Aur Shyam (1967).

 

In 1976, Dilip Kumar took a five-year break from work. After that, in 1981, he made a comeback with the film Kranti. Followed by few more iconic movies like Woh Shakti (1982), Mashal (1984), Karma (1986), Saudagar (1991). His last film was Qila which was released in 1998.

 

Dilip Kumar has received eight Filmfare Awards. According to media reports, Dilip Kumar's name is also recorded in the Guinness World Records for winning the most awards. Dilip Kumar was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 1991 and Padma Vibhushan in 2015. He was awarded the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1994. He was also a member of the Rajya Sabha from 2000 to 2006.
