Guwahati: Bhabesh Kalita took charge as the new President of Assam’s Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP).
Newly appointed Assam unit president of Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP), Bhabesh Kalita took his charge on Tuesday in the presence of the saffron party’s national president Jagat Prakash Nadda, State chief minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, and the immediate past State BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Dass with others.
Addressing the meeting virtually from New Delhi, Nadda emphasized various welfare activities including the ongoing Covid-19 vaccination drive as a mission mode. He asked CM Sarma and State president Kalita to give the utmost priority to the vaccination drive.
Stating that Prime Minister Narendra Modi allocated 35,000 crores for the mission, Nadda termed it as the largest and fastest vaccination program in the world. Bharat has vaccinated more than the US, France, and Britain among other countries.
After taking the charge, Kalita stated it as a huge responsibility and assured the party workers that he would give his best to the new responsibility, aiming to strengthen the party on the ground. The Saffron legislator from the Rongia assembly constituency in lower Assam appreciated his predecessor, now a cabinet minister in the BJP led coalition government, for his disciplined and strong leadership.
Hailing from Sutarkuchi village under the Kamrup district, Kalita is a law graduate and served as a minister in Sarbananda Sonowal’s cabinet in the last BJP led government of Assam. A follower of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh’s ideology, Kalita was already poured with wishes from the party leaders and workers from various parts of the State.
