The United States National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan said on June 20 that the United States was not considering issuing any threats to China for not cooperating with a global investigation to investigate the origin of coronavirus.
“We are not, at this point, going to issue threats or ultimatums. What we're going to do is continue to rally support in the international community,” Sullivan told CNN in an interview.
He reiterated that the US would continue to rally international support to pressurise China.
On June 19, China nominated the Wuhan Institute of Virology and its leadership for the top science award for identifying coronavirus.
On multiple occasions, China has indicated it would not allow any access to its labs for any investigation.
Sullivan said the US would consider any measure only after consulting its “friends and allies”.
Multiple hypotheses are suggesting the virus originated in the Wuhan Institute of Virology. But, China did not allow a visiting WHO team access to its lab in January this year.
It has been consistently denying any leak from its Wuhan lab.
