On June 15, UP Police filed an FIR in Ghaziabad against nine people, including Twitter, for spreading false information in the Ghaziabad thrashing case.
The Uttar Pradesh Police in Ghaziabad served a notice to Twitter India head Manish Maheshwari on June 17 to join the probe in the Ghaziabad fake news case.
People named in the FIR included propaganda website co-founder Muhammad Zubair, propagandist Rana Ayyub, Saba Naqvi, Congress leaders Salman Nizami, Maskoor Usmani, and Shama Mohamed.
The FIR mentions how these people spread a muted video of the Ghaziabad thrashing incident to give a personal fight a communal twist.
The video was muted to claim Abdul Samad Saifi was thrashed for not chanting Jai Shri Ram.
Investigation revealed that it was a personal fight. Pravesh Gurjar, Arif, Aadil, Mushahid, and others had thrashed occult practitioner Saifi in Ghaziabad on June 5.
Samaj wadi Party leader Umed Pehalwan Idrisi shot another video to fuel the claim that Siani was thrashed for not chanting Jai Shri Ram.
The police have asked Maheshwari to join the probe within a week.
