In a shocking incident that happened as a follow-up to actress Aisha Sultana’s statement of ‘India using Bio-weapon against Lakshadweep’, local shopkeepers were seen exhibiting notices saying ‘not selling commodities to BJP workers and supporters. Islamist organisations in Lakshadweep had earlier issued a fatwa regarding this. The first poster came at the 3F store in Kavaratti.

Earlier, Aisha Sultana was charged under sedition laws for her anti-national statement during a panel discussion at Jamaat-e-Islami linked Malayalam news channel. Lakshadweep BJP president Abdul Khader Haji had filed a police complaint against the controversial actress.

Hindu organisations are relating the current situation in Lakshadweep with the Kashmir of the 1990s, where Hindu pandits were forced to migrate by Islamist fundamentalists with aid from Pakistan. Muslim organisations in Lakshadweep had been trying to stall all the progressive measures taken by the administration and instigate people against the Union government.

Islamist organisations had also earlier led violent protests against the Lakshadweep collector Askar Ali who had refuted all the allegations made by the fundamentalist outfits against the administration. Intelligence agencies are monitoring the situation following the death threats against Administrator Praful Patel and Collector Asker Ali.
