2093 women lawyers from 28 states and 8 union territories wrote to the Chief Justice of India and his companion judges to take cognisance of the post poll violence in West Bengal and constitute an SIT to investigate the violence.
The submission read “Take cognizance of the matter and constitute a Special Investigation Team to register FIRs and investigate into the deaths and other vengeful attacks as being reported in news.”

It further read “We all hope, that Your Lordships would consider the prayers in our Representation by exercising extraordinary and unfettered powers under ‘The Constitution of India’ which is the need of the hour.”

Massive violence has been unleashed by the TMC cadre since May 2 when the results of the assembly polls were announced.

More than 25 BJP members and RSS volunteers have lost their lives.

Every attempt was made by the West Bengal administration to stop the Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar from visiting the violence affected families.

He not only visited the families in West Bengal but also visited a camp in neighbouring Assam where affected families have fled to save their lives.

The women lawyers have also requested the Supreme Court to direct the West Bengal DGP to provide security to the violence affected families.
